Banglanews correspondent Himel receives JU ‘Conservation Media Award’ JU VC Prof Dr Farzana Islam handing over the prizes to Himel

JAHANGIRNAGAR UNIVERSITY: Country’s leading online news portal Banglanews24.com’s Jahangirnagar University (JU) correspondent Nur Alam Himel was given ‘Conservation Media Award’ for his report on protecting bird and biodiversity.  

JU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Farzana Islam handed over a crest and certificate to Himel, at the opening program of 17th bird fair at the campus Friday (January 19). 

Besides, JU Daily Star Correspondent Asaduzzaman and Somoy TV Correspondent Toha Khan were given the award on print and electronic media categories respectively. 

Earlier, Himel was awarded with ‘reporter of the year’ prize by Jahangirnagar University Journalists’ Association (JUJA). He has been elected JUJA president in 2018. 

The Conservation Media Award has been introduced this year. 

“This award will be given in each year to encourage the journalists for their contribution on protecting birds and biodiversity”, said Quamrul Hassan, convener of JU bird fair.

JU zoology department arranges the fair since 2001.
