DHAKA: India has donated Tk 12.08 crore for building a modern girls’ school in Khulna to ensure better education for women on the occasion of International Woman’s day on Wednesday (March 8).

The donation was given to an ongoing construction project titled “Construction of Khalishpur Collegiate Girls’ School in Khulna City Corporation Area”. 

A treaty was signed in this regard between Bangladesh and India at the National Economic Council (NEC) conference room in city’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar area.

Acting secretary of Economic Relations Department (ERD) Kazi Shofiqul Azam for Bangladesh government and Indian high commissioner Harshvardhan Shringla for India government and Khulna City Corporation (KCC) mayor Moniruzzaman Moni signed the treaty.

This donation will be used to build a five-storey modern girls’ school at Khalishpur in Khulna where 1,200 girls will have the opportunity of education. The construction of the school building was started in 2016 with an area of 11,200 square feet. 

The two countries hoped that these types of Socio-economic constructional donation will develop the relation between both countries.
