DHAKA: Jaganaath University is going to face shortage of teachers as tenure of over 200 teachers who are working on deputation will end in October.
Fresh appointment procedure is also on a snail’s pace that may make the crisis severe once the tenure of the teachers on deputation ends.
Students of the university are now worried over the possible shortage.
“Many departments of the university have been facing shortage of teachers when it was made university in 2005,” Saki, a student of 1st batch of the university told banglanews24.com.bd.
The students are now afraid if the JU administration fails to recruit new teachers for vacant posts in such a short period, she said.
Formerly a college, Jagannath University is now being taught mostly by the teachers who used to teach the college students.
Sheikh Rejaul Karim, Deputy Registrar of JU, said that 168 teachers were appointed since 2005 as the university started. “We are processing appointment of another 32 teachers and a circular has been made in this regard,” he said.
There are some 23,000 students in 28 departments in JU that also has some 380 approved posts for teachers.
Legal battle at court also continues as some 104 teachers on deputation filed three cases asking the authorities to make their position permanent in JU.
“This is also delaying the process of recruitment,” said an official.
JU Vice-Chancellor Dr Mejbah Uddin Ahmed told banglanews24.com.bd that they will expedite the appointment of 135 teachers so that the crisis does not looms large.
