PM inaugurates ‘Meghdut’, ‘Mayurpangkhi’

DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated two Boeing planes ‘Meghdut’ and ‘Mayurpangkhi’ at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in city on Tuesday (January 12).

‘Cargo planes are now needed to make the national carrier Biman Bangladesh Airlines more profitable.’

‘All sorts of assistance will be provided from the government in this regard,’ the PM assured.

However, the new generation crafts Boeing 737-800 with 162-seat each will carry passengers.

Earlier, civil aviation and tourism ministry officials told banglanews that Biman authorities in 2008 signed a deal with Boeing Company for purchasing 10 aircrafts.

As part of the deal, four 777-300 ER crafts ‘Palki’, ‘Arun Alo’, ‘Akash Pradip’ and ‘Ranga Prabhat’ have already been added with the Biman fleet.

They further said that two Boeing Dreamliners are scheduled to arrive in 2017 and two in 2019.

The Biman authorities have also expressed their eagerness to purchase the largest craft Airbus-380.
