Seminar on Human Rights Education in BangladeshHuman Rights Desk The Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Professor Mizanur Rahman has urged the government of to take initiatives for facilitating people access to awareness and education on human rights. According to him, the Constitution of the country has guaranteed major human rights incorporating those as the fundamental rights, therefore, it is state’s responsibilities to facilitate people’s access to know and learn about their own human rights, and protect those rights as well. Professor Mizan has made this observation as the Chief Guest today (19 May) at the seminar on “Human Rights Education in Bangladesh” organized by the Faculty of Law, Dhaka International University (DIU) at CIRDAP Auditorium in the capital. He reiterated that NHRC is to create a culture of human rights in the country. However, he mentioned that we should be vigilant regarding our rights along with being respectful to our duties as well. He informed that the NHRC is going to raise people’s awareness on human rights with the participation of law students from both public and private universities. The NHRC is also initiating a campaign against violence against women and girls named “Brave Man Campaign.” It is to target boys students to raise their awareness on gender equality and generate respects for their counterparts. Dr. Uttam Kumar Das, Associate Professor and Dean (Acting) of the Faculty of Law, Dhaka International University, in his key note paper recommended for a National Policy on Human Rights Education. 20 May 2012 04:50:41 PM Sunday
