DHAKA: A Dhaka court Sunday ordered to issue a gazette against Arafat Rahman Koko to appear before the court in the tax evasion case filed by National Board of Revenue (NBR).
Senior Special Judge M Johirul Haque passed the order asking him to appear before the court on August 30 otherwise the trial will held in his absence.
On March 6, a Dhaka court deferred until March 31 the hearing on the tax-evasion case filed against Arafat Rahman Koko, younger son of BNP chairperson and ex-PM Khaleda Zia.
On March 1, 2010, Deputy Commissioner of Taxes of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) Shahin Akhter Hossain filed the case against Koko on a charge of evading the payment of Tk 5239,226 in income tax for fiscal years 2002-2003 to 2006-2007.
Koko has been staying abroad for treatment for a long time, following his release on parole towards the end of the post-1/11 emergency regime.
