
Army chief put on new rank badge

DHAKA: The New Army Chief Lieutenant General Iqbal Karim Bhuiyan Tuesday was ceremonially adorned with the rank badge of General in a function at Prime Minister Office (PMO) in the city.
Air Force Chief Air Marshal Mohammad Enamul Bari and Naval Force Chief Vice Admiral ZU Ahmed adorned the new Chief of Army Staff with badges of rank of General in presence of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Emerging from the function, PM’s Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad made the disclosure.
The Prime Minister, also in-charge of the Ministry of Defense, congratulated the new Army Chief.
Advisor on Public Administration HT Imam, Advisor on Defense Affairs Major General (retd) Tarique Ahmed Siddiqui, Principal Secretary to the premier Sheikh M Wahid-uz-Zaman, PMO secretary Mollah Wahiduzzaman, Defense Secretary Khandaker Mohammad Asaduzzaman, Chief of National Security Intelligence (NSI) Major General Monjur Ahmed (retd), PM’s Military Secretary Major General Mia Mohammad Zainul Abedin and Director General of Special Security Force (SSF) Major General Choudhuri Hasan Sarwardi were among others present on the occasion.
Earlier on Monday, Iqbal Karim Bhuiyan took over charges as the new chief of Bangladesh Army as his predecessor General Abdul Mubin went on retirement.
On June 7, he was appointed Chief of Bangladesh Army staff.
