DHAKA: At least 13 people were killed and 16 others injured in separate road accidents in Comilla, Tangail, Sirajganj and Joypurhat districts on Sunday morning.
In Comilla, at least five people were killed and nine others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a covered van near Iliatganj Bazar under Daudkandi upazila on Sunday morning.
Of the deceased, two were identified as Lutfur Rahman, 40, and Monwara Begum.
The injured were rushed to different local hospitals.
Daudkandi highway police camp in-charge Anwar Hossain said, “A Comilla-bound passenger bus of Prime Paribahan fell into a road side ditch after the head-on collision at about 9:30am, leaving three people dead on the spot and 11 others injured.”
Later, two people succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment.
The rescue operation was underway till filing the report at about 11:30am.
In Tangail, at least two people were killed and six others injured as a passenger bus ran over a tempo on Tangail-Bangabandhu Bridge highway in Char Bhabla area under Kalihati upazila on Sunday morning.
The deceased were identified as Abdul Basir, 40, son of Chandu Ali and Mohaimil, 30, son of Omar Ali. The injured were rushed to Tangail General Hospital.
Bangabandhu Bridge East thana OC Yunus Ali said, “A speedy driven passenger bus ran over a Tangail-bound tempo at about 6:30am, leaving one dead on the spot and seven others injured.”
Later, another one died while undergoing treatment at Tangail General Hospital.
In Sirajganj, three people were killed and five others injured in separate road accidents in Bangabandhu Bridge West link road area Sunday morning.
Of the deceased, two were identified as Bijoy Kumar, 38, Ariful Islam, 30.
Bangabandhu Bridge West Thana OC Mehedi Hasan said a goods-loaded truck rammed into a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in Kodda intersection on Sunday morning, leaving the CNG driver Bijoy Kumar dead on the spot.
The injured were admitted to Sirajganj Sadar Hospital and local clinics. Later, Ariful Islam succumbed to his injuries in the hospital.
Besides, an anonymous person was killed in a head-on collision between a pick-up van and a private car in Mulibaria area.
In Joypurhat, three people were killed and another one was injured as a truck ran over a rickshaw van in Kalai upazila on Sunday morning.
The deceased were identified as- Mosiruddin, 50, Rickshaw van puller bablu, 45, Enamul Haque, 30.
Sources said a speedy driven truck ran over a rickshaw van at about 8am, leaving both the rickshaw puller and the passenger dead on the spot and two others injured.
Later, one died while undergoing treatment.
