DHAKA: Opposition BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir alleged that the letter sent by World Bank had included the names of Prime Minister, Finance Minister and former communications minister.
“Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is trying to hide the matter by declaring to construct Padma Bridge with own funding,” he added.
He came up with the allegation in a discussion held at National Press Club in the city Tuesday.
Mirza Fakhrul said, “The world media is discussing the involvement of Prime Minister’s family in Padma Bridge corruption although she has ruled it out.”
Urging the government to return to democracy Fakhrul Islam asked it to disclose the letter of World Bank regarding Padma Bridge corruption.
He also criticized the Anti-Corruption Commission for starting investigation against Chittagong City Corporation mayor M Manjur Alam.
“The government has abducted some 130 BNP leaders and activists including M Illias Ali in last three years,” he added.
The discussion was addressed, among others, by BNP standing committee member Dr Abdul Moyeen Khan, advisor to BNP chairperson TM Giasuddin and Jubo Dal president Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal.
