DHAKA: The High Court summoned former editor of Daily Jaijaindin Shafiq Rehman to appear before the court on May 22 for taking allotment of plot illegally in Tejgaon industrial area.
The court also asked opposition BNP lawmakers Ziaul Haq Zia and Mej (retd) Kamrul Islam to submit a sworn statement consisting amount of assets they have in the capital.
Earlier in the day, the two lawmakers along with Joy, Nazma Islam, RAZUK chairman and chief engineer of Housing and Public Works Ministry appeared before the court.
Managerial Editor of the daily Somokal Abu Sayeed Khan was also present there to assist the court.
On May 9, HC summoned the lawmakers with other four people to appear before the court on May 16.
The court also directed to postpone the plot allotment process of the land of Hatirjheel-Begunbari road and unplanned land.
The court issued a rule upon the accused people to explain why the allotment process “should not be declared illegal”.
The HC passed a directive to RAZUK chairman to submit the list of the people among whom plots were allotted.
The court urged chairman of Urban Planning and Engineering Department of BUET Sarwar Jahan, deputy director of Architecture Department and journalist Abu Syed Khan to attend the court on the same day to assist in proceedings.
Hatirjheel-Begunbari road was about 60 feet wide in the RAZUK plan in 1994.
But in 2006, RAZUK allotted the road to two state ministers for making it plot.
