‘My work appreciated’

NEW YORK: Newly appointed Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations Ameerah Haq, a Bangladeshi origin, said as a Bangladeshi she felt proud and expressed her gratitude to the authorities concerned.
She made the expression while talking to banglanews New York correspondent in an exclusive interview Thursday.
The under secretary-general said, “I had started my UN career as a field officer before 37 years and my work has been appreciated by appointing me in the highest position.”
Ameerah Haq is presently playing the role of Ban Ki Moon’s special representative to Eshtimora and talked to banglanews over telephone.
She added: “I am very much interested in working with the government of Bangladesh and if I am able to perform my duty properly with professionalism and devotion, there will be no hindrance in the development of Bangladesh police and army.”
Expressing her gratitude, she said, “UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon has given me very important responsibilities.”
It is very difficult to work together with all UN divisions and missions and the war victims of all affected countries, she added.
In her concluding speech, the UN Under-Secretary-General, Ameerah Haq, said, “My desire is to play my role properly and brighten the image of UN and my country.”
