
Electricity turns into commodity: Tamim

DHAKA: Professor M Tamim, also former adviser to caretaker government, opined that electricity is turning into common commodity common as the mass people are paying more money for it.
“The common people of the country are buying electricity at a high cost. It is like common goods. It should not be,” he said.
The educator came up with the assertion while addressing a post-budget discussion organized by Center for Policy Dialogue, a research organization, held at a city hotel.
He added: “The unplanned rental power plants have been established, which stresses the economy.”
The former adviser to caretaker government said no longer version plan has been exposed. “But enhancement in production is positive to alter the situation. We need to boost up coal-mining.”
Former Minister M Sayeeduzzaman in the chair, the programme was also addressed, among others, by Planning Minister AK Khandaker, former Commerce Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury and Rashed Khan Menon MP.
