
Coin exhibition at National Museum

DHAKA: A 12-day exhibition displaying coins and currencies is being held at Nalinikanta Bhattashali Exhibition hall of Bangladesh Nationa Museum.
The exhibition was inaugurated by Bangladesh Bank governor Dr Atiur Rahman and cultural secretary Suraiya Begum Monday evening.
Bangladesh National Museum director general Prakash Chandra Das delivered welcome speech at the inaugural session, presided over by Bangladesh National Museum Trustee Board chair M Azizur Rahman.
The exhibition will remain open from 10:30am to 7:00pm from Saturday to Wednesday and from 3:30pm to 8:00pm on Fridays till July 20.
The show will remain closed on Thursdays.
Jointly organised by Bangladesh National Museum, Bangladesh Bank and HSBC, the exhibition is arranged on the occasion of the 100th founding anniversary of Bangladesh National Museum.
The museum and Bangladesh Bank are displaying the coins and currencies of different ages of Bangladesh from their collections.
Appreciating the initiative of arranging the show, the speakers said that it would usher a door for researchers.
‘Coins or currencies are the symbol of sovereignty and economic development of a nation. The viewers as well as researchers will get opportunity to know the history of the country through the exhibition,’ said Bangladesh Bank governor Dr Atiur Rahman at the inauguration.
Museum’s education department’s deputy director (in-charge) Dr Niru Shamsun Nahar presented the inaugural session.
