DHAKA: The US Grand Jury will decide whether charges will be filed against Bangladeshi citizen Quazi Mohammad Rezwanul Hasan Nafis, arrested by FBI for ‘bomb plot` in New York.
Besides, charge sheet has already been sent to the grand jury to take decision about Nafis.
Meanwhile, if he is found guilty of plotting to blow up Federal Reserve Bank in New York by a 1,000-pound bomb then he will be sentenced to lifetime imprisonment.
On the other hand, US New York District Defense Attorney, Federal Defender and Heidi E Sizari has e-mailed Nafis’ father regarding the matter.
Brooklyn Federal Court`s spokesperson Robert Nardoza said, “This is not the time to say whether Nafis is guilty or not. If the Grand Jury gives its verdict in the support of filing final charges then the case hearing will start and we will take his statement.”
He said, “Nafis can accept his guilt or claim to be innocent while taking his statement.”
Sources said the sensational cases of US are usually sent to a 12-member Grand Jury and Nafis case is no different.
Earlier Wednesday, federal authorities and New York police arrested a Bangladeshi national in the morning for allegedly plotting to blow up a Federal Reserve Bank in New York by detonating a 1,000-pound bomb.
A US court sent him to jail rejecting bail prayer.
The FBI said its sting operation culminated in the arrest of him in a hotel room near the Federal Reserve Bank as he tried in vain to detonate the inert device.
