DHAKA: A month-long Amar Ekushey Boi Mela will kick off on Friday at the Bangla Academy premises in the city as part of the comprehensive programmes for commemorating the martyrs of the great Language Movement through the pursuit of knowledge.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate at about 3:00 pm.

All preparation has already been completed.

Director General (DG) of Bangla Academy Shamsuzzaman Khan made the disclosure at a press conference held at the Bangla Academy on Thursday morning.

“This year’s book fair is not for commoners, but for writers and publishers,” opined the Bangla Academy Director General Professor Shamsuzaman Khan.

He disclosed entire preparations to arrange the fair and its different side.

In the briefing, he also said that the fair will remain open from 3:00pm to 9:00pm from February 1 to 28. But in holidays, it will remain open from 11:00am to 9:00pm while on February 21, the fair will remain open from 8:00am to 9:00pm.

With Bangla Academy president professor Anisuzzaman in the chair, the inaugural function will attend, among others, by Cultural Affairs Minister Abul Kalam Azad.  

He, however, said: Only publishing houses will participate the fair in this year. A total of 274 publishing houses have been given permission to set up 460 stalls. Amongst them, some 419 stalls to 247 publishing organization and rests of stall for 27 government institutions and little magazines have been allocated.   

He also said, “Small publishing houses and people who published books in personally can showcase their books in stall of national book center.”

Law enforcing agencies have taken all out security measures on entire activities of book fair. They will monitor the security of people through numbers of close circuit cameras.

Seminar will be held around 4:00pm in everyday from February 2 to 28 and cultural function will be arranged in every evening.
