DHAKA: At least 25 people were injured as police charged baton on journalists and lawyers while they were protesting against arrest of 18-party alliance leaders, including BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
The leaders were arrested in a case on charge of torching vehicle in front of Prime Minister Office during hartal as the court denied their bail plea.
Pro-BNP lawyers were strayed as police charged baton on them while the arrested 33 leaders were taken into jail.
Police also attacked journalists in the area that left a few number of journalists injured, said a spot account of the incident.
Police also held three lawyers as they tried to stop the prison-van carrying the 18-party leaders.
Pro-BNP lawyers started staging protest rally since 3:00pm Wednesday as soon as the leaders were taken into the prison van.
Both police and lawyer locked into clash in several phases, leaving at least 25 people, including five journalists injured.
The journalists are Khalil of Diganta TV, Sazid of Channel24, Kabirul Islam Pintu of ATN News, Anisur Rahman Khan of Ekushey Television.
The injured were rushed to different hospitals of the city.
