DHAKA : Commerce Minister GM Quader Tuesday said the government is working to formulate a new law ‘Director Sale Act -2012’ to stop cheating in the name of Multilevel Marketing (MLM).
The commerce minister came up with the statement while addressing the parliament in response to a question from Ahmed Najmin Sultana.
He said, “Around 69 institutions have been enlisted under joint stock companies to direct MLM business and we are working on the new Director Sale Act-2012 to stop cheating.”
The Jatiya party lawmaker said, “The draft was passed at the secretary meeting of the cabinet division.”
In the proposed law, the MLM companies will have to be given license for running their business. “If this law is enacted, legal action could be taken against the illegal companies,” he said.
In response to another question from Ziaul Haq Mridha, he told the House that TCB has taken a project to purchase 54,66,232 litres soybean oil, 35,788 tonnes sugar, 4,319 tonnes pulse mashur pulses, 2000 tonnes gram and 1000 tonnes dates for upcoming Ramadan.
He added, “These goods will be sold to commoners with the help of 2,952 dealers in reasonable prices.”
