DHAKA: Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad Saturday urged the government to make Nobel Laureate Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus as chairman of the search committee to recruit the Managing Director of Grameen Bank.

JP Chief made the call in a statement released on Saturday, says a press release.

According to release, the former President recommended to include two members from government, three from grand alliance, two from civil society and three female members from the existing Grameen Bank board of directors in the search committee.

Expressing deep concern about the bank, the former president said, “The MD appointment issue has not been solved for a long time.”

Any complication regarding the bank is not desirable to the people, he concerned.

“After founding the bank, I appointed Yunus as the MD of the bank and gave him the authority to appoint all directors,” Ershad said adding, “My approval to form the bank not only provided great contribution to the country but also carried Nobel Prize.”

The JP leader urged the government to solve the matter immediately.
