BARISAL: Bus Owners’ Association and Road Transport Workers’ Union called off their indefinite transport strike on Sunday evening following a fruitful discussion mediated by the district administration.
Earlier in the day, a joint meeting between the leaders of bus owners associations and district administration was held in the conference room of the deputy commissioner.
Acting deputy commissioner Palash Kanti Bala directed the Banaripara upazila nirbahi officer Abdul Alim Waresi to stop plying of illegal human haulers on the routes immediate after the meeting.
On Saturday, an indefinite transport strike began in 11 routes of the district at the call of District Bus Owners’ Association and Road Transport Workers’ Union.
Bus Owners’ Association leaders said they called the strike demanding the closure of playing small vehicles in the routes including Mahindra Alfa, Magic, Nosimon, Korimon and Tomtom.
President of District Bus Owners’ Association Aftab Hossain told banglanews they have informed the administration to stop the movement of the vehicles. But no action was taken in this regard.
“So we have compelled to call the indefinite strike,” he added.
