DHAKA: The High Court Monday asked the authorities concerned to sack the former officer-in-charge of Feni Model Thana for his alleged involvement in torturing the district AC land.
Meanwhile, the court directed the cabinet secretary to form a three-member probe committee led by secretary for law and submit the report within two months.
An HC bench comprising of Justice AHM Shamsuddin Chowdhury and Justice M Jahangir Hossain came up with the order in response to a writ petition filed by Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh.
On May 7, the human rights organization filed the writ petition on the basis of a report published in a national Bangla daily in this regard.
Taking the charges into cognizance, the court summoned the officer-in-charge and three sub-inspectors of Feni Sadar Police Station to explain their roles over the assault on an assistant commissioner (AC) (land) of Feni.
On May 3, some plainclothes police led by Feni Model Thana OC, Nazim Uddin, reportedly assaulted the AC, Nazrul Islam, and surveyor Khademul Islam while they were evicting illegal structures before the police station.
In response to a writ petition, the court also issued a rule upon the government to explain in three weeks why it should not be directed to prosecute the policemen for the assault.
