DHAKA: International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-2 on Tuesday rejected the bail petition of Jamaat-e-Islami secretary general and ex-minister Ali Ahsan Mohammad Mujahid for his alleged crimes against humanity during 1971 liberation war.

The three-member tribunal, headed by Justice ATM Fazle Kabir passed the order after Mujahid’s lawyer sought his bail on religious grounds.

While rejecting the plea, the tribunal said there have been no past incidences of granting bail for performing religious ground.

On December 11, 2011, formal charges were submitted against Mujahid among three top Jamaat-e-Islami leaders for their alleged involvement in ‘crimes against humanity’.

They were arrested on June 29, 2010 on charges of hurting religious sentiments of Muslims through their blasphemous comments.
