DHAKA: Posts and Telecommunications Minister Rajiuddin Ahmed Raju categorically said the government would launch the 3G (third-generation) mobile service in the country by July next.
The telecommunications minister made the disclosure in a meeting with Deputy Secretary General of International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Houlin Zhao held at his office in the city.
Mentioning the developments of ICT sector during incumbent government, he said, “In the last three years the numbers of internet users increased by 3 percent to 18 percent.”
He also informed that telephone and mobile phone users increased to 53 percent from 25 percent and band width limit increased from 7 gigabyte to 85 gigabyte.
On January 31, he said, “The fourth-generation (4G) technology phone network will be launched soon in Bangladesh and there is a possibility of reducing mobile call charge after completing the cost modeling project implemented by the assistance of International Telecommunication Unit (ITU).”
