DHAKA: Israel has started to evacuate Jewish settlers from an unauthorized West Bank outpost, following a court order to dismantle the enclave.
Authorities say about 30 families — half of the Ulpana community — are to leave the outpost on Tuesday, while the rest are to leave later this week.
Unlike more violent settler evacuations in the past, the Ulpana residents have promised to leave quietly.
They are moving into temporary housing, and Israel has pledged to relocate their five apartment buildings to a nearby site soon, The Jakarta Post reports.
Israel`s Supreme Court ordered the outpost dismantled because it was built on privately owned Palestinian land. Israel considers such construction illegal, but authorizes construction elsewhere on lands in the West Bank.
The Palestinians claim all of the West Bank for their future state.
