ISWARDI: Police held at least six leaders and activists of Jamaat and its student wing Chhatra Shibir from the central mosque area of the district as they brought out a protest procession on Monday night.
The detainees are Jamaat leader Sirajul Islam, 45, Abu Bakkar Siddique, 40, Masud Rana, 25, Munna, 26, Ismail Hossain, 25, and Lutfur Rahman, 32.
Confirming the matter, Iswardi Thana OC Akbar Hossain told banglanews, “Police chased and nabbed six people while they were trying to bring out a procession protesting the charge sheet against detained Jamaat Ameer Maulana Motiur Rahman Nizami.”
Earlier in the day, the International Crime tribunals framed charges against Jamaat leaders Motiur Rahman Nizami and Quader Molla, detained for trial on charges of wartime crimes against humanity during liberation war in 1971.
The three-member tribunal led by Justice Nizamul Haque passed the order on basis of 16 charges.
On January 9, the ICT took into cognizance the formal charges against the former Jamaat Amir, Nizami, for his alleged involvement in war crime.
On the other hand, a three-member ICT-2 team led by Chairman Falze Kabir passed the order on basis of six charges.
It also fixed June 20 for giving ‘opening statement’ against him.
