DHAKA: Finance Minister AMA Muhith Thursday categorically said the price of new vehicles should not be cheaper than older ones.
The finance minister came up with the observation while addressing a post-budget meeting with FBCCI, BTMA, BGMEA and BKMEA held at his office in the city.
Demanding withdrawal of extra tax on reconditioned vehicles, businessmen said, “The price of reconditioned vehicle becomes higher than the new ones for imposing on additional taxes on the basis of new price rate.”
In response to a question, the finance minister said, “The aim of the government is to shrink and discourage the import of reconditioned vehicles gradually.”
Under the circumstance, the new duty will persist this year despite having incompatible in taxation.
“But, we will pay attention to make it rationale,” he said.
