GAZIPUR: A garment worker was killed as a bus ran over him while crossing road in Malekerbari area Thursday morning, triggering a massive protest in the area.
The deceased was identified as Hazrat Ali, 28, a garment worker of Eva Sweater.
Witnesses said a RMG worker succumbed to his injuries after he was knocked down by a bus while crossing the road in Malleker Baria area.
Later, angry garments workers vandalized some vehicles and set three buses on fire and blockaded Dhaka-Mymensingh highway from 8am to 9am.
On information, Gazipur Fire Service rushed in and brought the blaze under control and normalized the vehicular movement in the area.
Naojor Highway Police Outpost In-charge Sergeant Iqbal Hossain told banglanews police recovered the body after the incident.
