DHAKA: Home Minister Advocate Sahara Khatun Tuesday said the government would form marine police to check extortion and indiscriminate movement of oil tankers on the river routes at night.
The government would also introduce mobile courts in this regard, the minister said.
Sahara made the disclosure after emerging from a meeting held at the secretariat.
State Minister for Home Affairs Advocate Shamsul Hoque Tuku said, "Mobile courts have been asked to take action against oil tankers which are being moved indiscriminately on the river routes at night."
"The marine workers will be asked to provide information about the extortionists to take punitive action against them," said Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan.
