DHAKA: Voting of the Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) ended on Thursday to elect a 41-member central committee to run the association for the next two years.
Besides, the poll in Kushtia district was suspended around 11:00am over a printing error on the ballot papers, banglanews correspondent reports.
A total of 32,892 voters, 13,338 in Dhaka, were expected to cast their votes at 67 BMA branches across the country from 8:30am to 5:30pm without any break.
Two major panels--pro-Awami League Swadhinata Chikitsak Parishad (Swachip) and pro-BNP Doctors’ Association of Bangladesh (DAB)--are contesting the polls with pledges of developing medical studies, public health services and medical research.
Dr Mahmud Hasan and Dr Iqbal Arslan are contesting for the posts of president and secretary general from Swachip panel.
Besides, Dr Abdul Aziz and Dr AZM Zahid Hossain are contesting for the posts of president and secretary general from the DAB panel.
