DHAKA: Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni claimed that the wrong information has been supplied to the US government over the ongoing Grameen Bank crisis.
She said, “The government is considering the issue as a complete internal matter and is trying to resolve the problem as per our national background, observation and legal structure.”
She came up with the remarks while talking to BBC Bangla.
The foreign minister said, “The wrong message created misunderstandings in both home and abroad. The US authority has interest on GB as Dr Yunus has a worldwide reorganization and goodwill.”
Denying that the relationship between Bangladesh and USA deteriorated due to the issue, she said, “The bilateral relationship between the two countries became stronger and close comparing to any other previous time.”
Meanwhile, she said she does not believe that the relationship between two countries can be deteriorated only for one person.
The ruling Awami League lawmaker said, “The Bangladesh government does not want that the progress of GB to be hindered as the international community, including Hillary wants.”
Claiming that the relationship between Dr Yunus and US foreign secretary Hillary Clinton is becoming closer day by day, she said, “Dr Yunus has held three bilateral meetings with Hillary and met her several times at a number of International forums. Their personal relationship is turning into a good friendship.”
Dr Dipu Moni said, “Bangladesh has extended its support to the worldwide programmes taken by US president Barack Obama.”
Besides, Bangladesh has directly participated in many sensitive programmes initiated by the US government, including combating terrorism, she said.
