The Most admired writer of the country Humayun Ahmed passes away. He died at 64 in a New York Hospital while undergoing treatment for cancer. He was under treatment for about one year in USA.

Born on November 13, 1948 in a tiny village of of Netrokona, he started his schooling in many institutions of Sylhel, Comilla, Chittagong, Dinajpur and Bogra. His father was a police officer and a freedom fighter. Being a son of a government officer, he had to follow his father to many districts of the country. Might be for this reason, the people of country from different regions were very live in his literary works.

He was different from others amongst the writers. All of his works were different in views, outlook, dimension and tastes. All of his works are unique and unparallel and second to none. He was self-styled writer and novelist, dramatist and film maker. He has touched almost all areas of art, entertainment and literary works.

And most amazingly, he left his permanent mark on these areas of the literary works.

What he had done in his life, he never forgotten his responsibility to the society and the country at large.
He criticized the anti-social element in a positive manner. He viewed all possible dimensions of the societal behaviors which were duly reflected in his works. This has made him popular and dear to the people. The people could see their lives in the creations of the Humayun Ahmed.

Being a son of a freedom fighter, the facts and story of our independent movement was actualized in his films, novels and writings. No other writers could give the pictures our freedom movement so lively and delicately before him on the silver screen. When the general audience had forgotten to go to the theater, he stimulated the viewers to return there with newer tastes and views.

Being a professor of science, he made the science fiction so popular to the young readers of the age. When we had to depend on the foreign novels and translations of foreign writers for science fiction, Humayun Ahmed appeared with his fiction on science and so on to us in our early childhood. He was doing the same task until his last days.

He was unique and first ever fiction writer and dramatist for TV. As a most favorite TV-soap he was none but one. Many of his dramas have dictated the feeling, sentiment, affection and reaction of the viewers of the TV programmes until last days.

Since 1970, he continued to become the popular fiction and story writer.

His first Novel Nondito Noroke is enough to take him to the heaven of the writers. But he created many more after Nondito Noroke.

For last two decades until 2004, he continued to top the best seller list of Bangla Academy Book Fair. But he is unparallel not in respect of best selling writer, but as a writer who made the book popular to a generation, especially to the young generation. A book-loving generation is the contribution of Humayun Ahmed.

In our childhood, we switched to Humyun Ahmed from foreign fiction writer to get the taste of our soil in literary works. And we continued to read him. He created for all readers of various tastes.

He dictated and guided the tastes of the readers and widened the views of the readers. It has broadened and strengthened the power of thought of the readers and viewers.

In one of his popular drama, Ayomoy, he commented (by the actor), that death does not come in silence. It always comes by indication.

Could Humayun Ahmed predict his go away? For this, has he given a last visit to his Nuhash Palli before the last chance to get back to life in full?

It shook us all who will be missing the book of Humayun Ahmed beside our pillow while sleeping. He wanted to live as everyone wants. That’s why he did not submit himself to the twilight of death. But he loved the shadow of the trees to drop on his shoulders. For this, to take the shower of the shadow of the greenery of the Nuhash Palli, he visited his last just a few days ago.

He will be back to his Nuhash Palli and will stay forever never to go back to elsewhere. He will be keeping silent and sleeping. But Alas! His silence is so louder and prevailing to us.
