DHAKA: The holy Ramadan, the lunar month of self-purification through fasting and abstinence, begins as the new moon was sighted in Bangladesh’s sky on Friday evening.
Lailatul Qadr, the night of divine blessing and benediction, will be observed on August 17 in the run-up to Eid festival.
The National Moon Sighting Committee took the decision in a meeting held at the Islamic Foundation in the night after reviewing reports on moon sighting from different parts of the country and various agencies.
