SYLHET: Opposition BNP Standing Committee Member Brigadier (retd) ASM Hannan Shah Sunday said the people of Bangladesh would renounce the culprits who were involved in torching hostel of Sylhet MC College.
He came up with the statement while visiting the burnt MC College students’ hostel around 12:30pm.
The BNP leader said, “Though BNP leaders were arrested in a vehicle torching case in front of PM’s office but the government didn’t take any action against their student wing setting up MC College students’ hostel in blaze.”
Hannan said BNP would take all measures to bring back the students’ hostel in its previous condition when they would assume power.
BNP leader Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury said, “The government doesn’t want to develop the education system quality because they are establishing criminal politics in the universities one after the other with the help of their leaders and activists.”
Among the others, BNP Central Committee member former MP Shafi Ahmed Chowdhury, central committee member Ariful Haque Chowdhury, Abul Kaher Shamim, city BNP general secretary Abdul Kaiyum Jalali were among others present the visit.
On July 8, over 200 hostel rooms of the long-established MC College were burnt down following a clash between Chhatra League and Chhatra Shibir.
Later, it was closed for an indefinite period following a clash between Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) and Islami Chhatra Shibir.
Meanwhile, the college authorities formed a five-member probe body led vice principal professor Al Helal Bhuiyan by to investigate the incident on the same day.
