SYLHET: At least 68 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatra Shibir were held in Sylhet and Rajshahi districts for hindering police work Wednesday.
In Sylhet, some 52 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatra Shibir were held for hindering police work early Wednesday.
Sources said the detainees were held in special drives conducted by four thanas in different rented houses and hostels in the city.
Confirming the matter Sylhet Kotwali Thana OC told banglanews, “Renowned Jamaat-Shibir men were not amongst the detainees.”
In another incident, police held 16 Jamaat-Shibir men in Rajshahi for attacking police during a rally till Wednesday morning.
Earlier on Tuesday, at least 21 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatra Shibir were held for their alleged involvement in attacking police while 35 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Chhatra Shibir were held in different areas of Rajshahi city from Monday midnight to 10am on Tuesday.
