He made the assertion while addressing at a human chain organized by Awami Sangskritik Jote protesting WB’s fund cancellation on Padma Bridge in front of National Press Club.

“Three Padma Bridges can be built with TK 96, 000 crore through collecting money from different sources including five percent from 20 billion dollar’s reserve, Tk 10,000-15,000 crore from insurance companies and five percent from undisclosed money,” he said.

Barakat said World Bank is not a financial but a political organization. None could gain progress from the money of IMF and World Bank.

The economist also expressed hope that the construction of Padma Bridge would be possible to begin in the middle of next year if the money collection committee and technical committee are formed now.

Among others, Awami League organizing secretary Ahmed Hossain, general secretary of Awami Sangskritik Jote Jalilur Rahman addressed at the human chain presided over by Awami Sangskritik Jote president Poet Mosharraf.
