DHAKA: Mahmudul Hasan, the elected MP from Tangail-5 constituency, is set to take oath on May 30.
The oath-taking ceremony is scheduled to be held at 4:00pm on Wednesday.
A letter signed by the speaker of the national parliament has already been sent to him in this regard.
Earlier on May 7, the Election Commission (EC) declared BNP candidate Mahmudul Hasan as MP for the constituency of Tangail-5 as the High Court canceled membership of Jatiya Party leader Abul Kashem.
A gazette notification was published on the same day in this regard.
Election Commissioner M Shahnewaj told banglanews, “According to High Court’s direction, Election Commission Secretariat published the gazette declaring Mahmudul Hasan as legal MP for the constituency.”
Earlier, Appellate Division of the Supreme Court canceled Jatiya Party member Abul Kashem as MP for Tangail-5 constituency and declared his nearest candidate BNP leader Mahmudul Hasan as MP of the area.
A copy of the order reached at Election Commission Secretariat on April 29.
The commission was asked to execute the order within seven days next after receiving it.
Therefore, EC decided to publish the gazette by the deadline.
