DHAKA: The Parliamentary Standing Committee on commerce ministry thinks that some dishonest and profit-seeker businessmen are accountable for the edible oil price-hike despite initiatives taken by the ministry to reduce the price.
The parliamentary committee came up with the allegation at the 37th meeting with Chairman of the committee ABM Abul Kashem in the chair.
Member of the committee Rumana Mahmud and M Joynal Abedin also attended the meeting.
The committee said some businessmen are hiking the price by creating artificial scarcity. But they won’t get the chance to do that as market monitoring team of the ministry and different organizations are working on the matter.
Abul Kashem said the state-run Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) has stocked 2.75 lakh tonnes edible oil while the demand of the Ramadan month is 2 lakh tonnes.
In future, the market monitoring services will be available in online, said member Joynul Abedin.
