DHAKA: Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni asked International Organization of Migration (IOM) to bring transparency and making migration development centric in order to ensure speedy achievement of development goals.
The foreign minister came up with the plea when the chief of Bangladesh office of IOM Sarat Chandra Dash made a courtesy call at her office Thursday.
During the parley, she thanked the country chief for the institutional support to migration management in Bangladesh, particularly in dealing with the repatriation and reintegration of migrant workers from Libya last year.
In response, Das also thanked the minister for all cooperation extended to his organization by the government in performing his duties.
He also briefed her about the various activities undertaken by the organization in developing institutional capacities like conducting skill development programs and orientation courses for law enforcing agencies to prevent abuses and exploitation.
They discussed the formation of an emergency fund to deal with crisis situations.
They also discussed ways and means to ensure minimum wages, decent labor conditions, human rights, transparency in recruitment process.
The imperative for firm engagements in international and regional consultative processes was also underscored.
Dr Dipu Moni assured him of all cooperation and requested the IOM to continue providing support for promotion of safe and orderly migration in Bangladesh.
