DHAKA: Rapid Action Battalion personnel held 17 suspected activists of banned Islamist outfit Hizbut Tahrir from different areas of the city.
Director of RAB Media Wing M Sohayel said this at RAB headquarters on Friday afternoon.
Three teams of RAB-1, 2 and 10 held the activists along with huge amount of banned books, leaflets, banners, a laptop and a desktop computer from city’s Dhanmondi, Mohammadpur, Newmarket, Nikunja-2, and Gandaria area.
Of the detainees, Imran, 22, Rajib, 20, Saidul, 24, Nader Jabil, 26, Mashiur Rahman, 30, Md Hasan, 30, Mahiuddin, 30, Muraduzzaman, 24, Mosharaf Hossain, 20, Shohrab Hossain, 21, Maksudul Islam, 32, Mahabub Sakib, 17 and Kamrul Islam, 25 were identified while the identities of the rest could not be known immediately.
The detainees admitted their connection with the organization, the newsmen were told.
The press conference also said that they were trying to perform subversive activities secretly. Legal action will be taken against them.
