RANGPUR: The dawn-to-dusk hartal, called by Rangpur City Corporation Andolon Parishad demanding declaration the district as City Corporation, is underway in the district on Sunday.
It was seen on spot visit that the markets, tea stalls, shops and restaurants remained closed during the hartal hours.
No vehicles including rickshaws and vans are plying in internal and highway routes.
The pickets remain active from the morning to make the hartal a success. Jatiya Party leaders and activists brought out a pro-hartal procession at around 8am.
A good number of police personnel have been deployed in different points to maintain law and order situation.
Convener of Rangpur City Corporation Andolon Parishad Mashiur Rahman Ranga told banglanews, “We have called the hartal as Rangpur City Corporation has not been implemented yet as per the Prime Minister’s pledge.”
