Nahid assures to solve BUET crisis soon

DHAKA: Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid categorically said that there is no need of movements or hunger strike as the government would take prompt steps to solve existing crisis in Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).

Calling upon the students to abstain from movements, he said, “Decision will be taken immediately after talking with President and Prime Minister.”

The education minister came up with the assertion while talking to journalists at his secretariat office in the city Monday.

Earlier in the day, he talked with the senior teachers of the university over the existing crisis.

University Grants Commission (UGC) chairman AK Azad Chowdhury, parliamentary standing committee chairman on education affairs Rashed Khan Menon and education secretary Dr Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury were among others present at the meeting.

The crisis occurred in BUET when Teachers’ Association of the university started staging movements to press home their 16-point demand that include mainly the resignation of the VC and Pro-VC.
