Apple told a United States (US) court it will seek damages of more than US$2.5 billion (S$3.1 billion) from Samsung in a patent infringement case accusing the South Korean firm of copying the iPhone and iPad maker.
Apple outlined its case for damages in paperwork filed in advance of a pivotal court battle with the South Korean consumer electronics titan that is set to begin on Monday in the heart of Silicon Valley.
`Samsung`s infringing sales have enabled Samsung to overtake Apple as the largest manufacturer of smartphones in the world,` the document said.
The Apple filing said Samsung, in entering the smartphone and tablet markets, `chose to compete by copying Apple.`
