DHAKA: A cooperative market will be opened in city’s Motijheel area after Eid-ul-Fitr in a bid to keep prices of essentials reasonable.
State Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Jahangir Kabir Nanak will inaugurate the market on September 1.
The market will be controlled by Bangladesh Cooperative Marketing Society located at the ground adjacent to Motijheel Modhumita Cinema Hall.
It will remain open from 8:00am to 8:00pm.
Bangladesh Cooperative Marketing Society (BCMS) Director Shah Akhtaruzzaman Babu said all preparations of opening market have been taken and awaiting for inauguration.
BCMS General Manager Saiful Islam told banglanews: “Goods produced by cooperative farmers will be sold at the market at cheaper rate with the assistance of the government.”
He added: “The main objective of the cooperative market is to control price hike of essentials.”
Sources said four cooperative markets have already been set up in the capital while a total of 127 markets in district and upazila towns.
The preparation is underway to set up 92 more markets in each word of the capital in a bid to reduce adverse impact of syndicate and protect interest of consumers and farmers.
