FROM SANGSAD BHABAN: State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Mujibur Rahman Fakir categorically said some 60 to 65 pharmaceutical companies have been accused for their involvement in medicine adulteration.
Of the accused companies, 14 have already been shut and gradually rest of them would be closed down, he added.
He came up with the information Monday while answering a query of woman’s quota MP Salma Islam at Jatiya Sangsad.
Mujibur Rahman said, “The Directorate of Drug Administration along with mobile court is trying to stop fake and adulterated medicine sale as the government is determined and conscious to stop the sale of such medicines.”
Salma Islam said the health sector has been encompassed with different type of backwardness and limitations despite the enlargement of pharmaceutical sector.
The pharmaceutical industry, driven by private sector, made the country 95 percent self dependent in medicine.
Alongside numerous world-class pharmaceuticals, many low class factories are manufacturing quality less medicines and doing their business in internal market of the country, she informed.
She also said consuming these types o drugs, millions of patients are facing new health difficulties including depression, diabetics, kidney and liver problems and carcinogenic problems.
The Ministry of Health and Directorate of Drug Administration are jointly accountable for the sound health of the people of the country.
