DHAKA: Opposition BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia outright rejected the proposal of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina over interim government.
The BNP chief came up with the rejection while addressing an Iftar party arranged by Bangladesh Federal Journalists’ Union (BFUJ) and Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) at the National Press Club Sunday.
She said, “I am rejecting the proposal again of interim government through which Sheikh Hasina wants to assume power again.”
Indicating Sheikh Hasina, she said, “You will be compelled to reinstate the caretaker government through movements after Eid if you don’t reinstate it.”
Earlier, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said an interim cabinet can be formed with a view to holding next national polls in participation of all political parties.
Sheikh Hasina also opined that BNP can participate in that cabinet.
The premier came up with the remarks at an exclusive interview with BBC’s HARDtalk during her five-day London visit to attend the inaugural ceremony of London Olympics 2012.
The Iftar party was attended, among others, by BFUJ president Ruhul Amin Gazi and secretary general Shawkat Mahmud, DUJ president Abdus Shahid and general secretary Mohammad Baker Hossain.
