DHAKA: Opposition BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir alleged that the government is creating election fund in the name of raising fund for Padma Bridge construction.
He came up with the allegation while addressing a symbolic hunger strike programme held in front of the National Press Club Saturday.
The spokesperson for the ruling party said, “The World Bank has cancelled Padma Bridge funding due to the corruption of the government.”
The BNP leader said, “The Awami League government is planning to steal and embezzle the money to be collected from the countrymen for construction of the bridge.”
Ahead of election, the government is trying to cut the pockets of the people as funding of many large projects was cancelled, he alleged.
Fakhrul said, “LGRD Minister Syed Ashraful Islam has started talking disorderly to hide their corruption. The countrymen will try them for the enormous corruption.”
The BNP leader also alleged that the syndicate is being created due to direct support of the government. “So, the prices of essentials are increasing,” he claimed.
The programme was also addressed, among others, by BNP joint secretary general Aman Ullah Aman, chief whip Joynul Abdin Farooque and Jubo Dal president Moazzem Hossain Alal.
