DHAKA: A Dhaka court on Thursday fixed June 3 for hearing the bail petitions of 22 pro-BNP lawyers including Dhaka Lawyers Association ex-president Advocate Sanaullah Mia in a case filed over May 22 court vandalism.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Shahidu Islam issued the order passed the order as the High Court earlier had given them bail until June 3.
Earlier in the morning all of accused pro-BNP lawyers surrendered to the Dhaka Court and sought bail in the case.
Among other senior lawyers, Ex-president of Supreme Court Bar Association Khandaker Mahbub Hossain and Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokan stood for accused lawyers.
Metropolitan PP Abdullah Abu and District PP Khandaker Abdul Mamman moved for the state side.
On May 24, the High Court granted a 10-day anticipatory bail to 22 pro-BNP lawyers.
On May 23, some 99 unnamed pro-BNP lawyers were sued on Tuesday night for vandalizing two windows of Dhaka district and metropolitan session judge’s courts earlier in the day.
SI Makbul Hossain of Kotwali Thana filed the case under speedy trial tribunal act accusing 29 named, including Advocate Sanaullah Mia, Borhanuddin, Masud Ahmed Talukder, Mohsin Mia and 77 unnamed persons.
On May 22, the pro-BNP lawyer went on rampage in the Judge Court citing allegation that the ruling government is interfering in judiciary.
The lawyers under the banner of Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum Dhaka-unit vandalized glasses of widows and kicked the doors of the court room of Metropolitan Session Judge Jahurul Haque.
They also brought out protest procession in Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court, Metropolitan Session Judge Court and district Judge court premises.
