DHAKA: The High Court extended the duration of the bail of BNP Senior Vice-Chairman Tarique Rahman by six months in a case filed against him over extortion.
An HC bench comprising Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and Justice M Mujibur Rahman passed the order Wednesday.
On May 4 in 2007, project coordinator of ACL and RCL Syed Abu Sahed Shahel filed a case against Tarique and some others for extorting Tk 4.89 crore at different times.
On March 27 in 2007, a contractor named Akhteruddin filed a case against him for extorting Tk 1.32 crore.
On July 2 another High Court bench extended the duration of his bail by one year in three cases filed against him over extortion and tax evasion.
