SYLHET: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Rakib Uddin Ahmed categorically said the next general election would be held under elected government as per constitution.
“The next election will be held under the elected government as the High Court cancelled the caretaker government provision from the constitution,” he said.
The election commissioner came up with the observation Thursday in a workshop held at Sylhet divisional election officer office.
Rakib Uddin said, “The political parties only can decide under whom the next election to be held, not EC.”
There is no alternative to election for democracy. “I hope the political parties of the country will compromise in this regard.”
The workshop was attended, among others, by secretary of EC secretariat Dr M Sadik, additional secretary Sirajul Islam, divisional commissioner NM Ziaul Alam and four deputy commissioners of the division.
