NARAYANGANJ: Narayanganj Kanchpur area turned into a battleground as several thousand workers locked into clash with police from Saturday morning.
Locals sources said at least 20 people were injured in the hour-long clash.
Police and witnesses said around 7-8 thousand workers of Kanchpur Industrial Zone come out on the street with the demand of increasing their salaries and allowances at around 9:30am.
Later, more 5-6 thousand joined with them and went on rampage at 10am.
Besides, vehicular movements were suspended on Dhaka-Sylhet and Dhaka-Chittagong highway from 11am and police have also fired 50 rounds of tear shells and rubber bullets to bring the situation under control.
On the other hand, Sinha Opex Group workers demonstrated inside the factory.
District Shonargaon Thana OC Harun Ur Rashid said police is trying to bring the situation under control.
