20 fishermen freed from Sundarbans

BAGERHAT: Some 20 fishermen along with six trawlers on Sunday returned home after being released from a gang of pirates named ‘Shahidul’ paying them ransom money.

The victim fishermen said the gang abducted around 28 fishermen and eight trawlers in last seven days.

They released fishermen on Sunday as they were given Tk 35000 per person and Tk 50000 per trawler as ransom money, they added.

Eight fishermen and two trawlers are yet to be released, they added.

Bagerhat coastal fishermen Samiti general secretary Sheikh Idris Ali confirmed the matter to banglanews.
